It seems like there’s a study for everything, and how the brain responds to unexpected surprises is among them. Researchers at Emory University and Baylor College of Medicine evaluated brain scans for activity when an unanticipated pleasurable stimuli was presented.

“We find that so-called pleasure centers in the brain do not react equally to any pleasurable substance, but instead react more strongly when the pleasures are unexpected,” Emory neuroscientist Gregory Berns states. “This means that the brain finds unexpected pleasures more rewarding than expected ones.”

Pure-HappinessSo, think about it. If you opened your door to a colorful bouquet of fresh flowers, what kind of response would you instantly feel as your eyes soaked in the beauty? Whaaaaaaaat? For me? Who did this? Someone cares about me! Today! Oh, my! What a gorgeous, wonderful, pleasant surprise!

Package those thoughts with someone you care about and what an amazing impact you can have on their day, their week, their life, by sending a fresh, hand-arranged floral arrangement from bloomstoday.com. It’s a no brainer to send love and affection through fresh flowers, and it is mightily magnified in the surprise.

Vibrant-GardenThe study subjects’ brains responded with more activity to the surprise of something nice than to an expectation of the same. Positive anticipation is a wonderful emotion, but the surprise of fresh flowers not expected is awesome. The results were published in the Journal of Neuroscience.

The perfect glory of surprising someone you like a lot with fresh flowers is that there’s no potential embarrassment. If caught unaware in sweatpants, without make-up or napping in the middle of the day, the flowers are joyfully welcomed anyway. Given the somewhat dreary time of year as people wait out winter’s final blows and eagerly anticipate spring’s arrival, a fresh bouquet of colorful blooms can lift spirits and renew vitality in a huge way.

Brighten someone’s gray skies and between-seasons melancholy with brilliant colors and pretty vases, like these:Delightful-Sunshine
