Boy Meets Girl ~ Dating and Flowers

March 6, 2018 / Blooms Today

Boy meets girl and vice versa. It’s the theme of many a novel, many a movie and many in real life. Lots of 19th century mail order brides had no contact with future husbands prior to stepping off a stagecoach in an unknown territory. Several, however, did correspond about their lives, hopes and dreams via handwritten letters which may have taken weeks to be delivered. Today’s sharing of lives, hopes and dreams are delivered in seconds, but the sentiment is likely much the same. Classified ads were common in newspapers until the Internet stepped in.

Lazy-Day-SunflowersIt’s been 20 years since the first movie theme revolved around an email relationship. “You’ve Got Mail” still enthralls audiences, as evidenced by it appearing on cable television often. Romance never goes out of style, and even in the modern day of dating apps and websites, boy still meets girl and vice versa.

Besides romance, giving flowers never goes out of style either. No doubt, many a rough rancher met his mail order bride with a handful of field flowers. Diamonds may purportedly be a girl’s best friend, but there should be a fair amount of flowers after “hello, nice to meet you” and before any diamonds.

One of the world’s highest paid actresses in 2015 Anne Hathaway said: “Kindness is really important to me in finding my own prince – so are patience and a sense of humor. Without those qualities he’s no Prince Charming!” Kindness is akin to thoughtfulness and sending flowers covers both bases.
