Boy Meets Girl ~ Dating and Flowers

Boy meets girl and vice versa. It’s the theme of many a novel, many a movie and many in real life. Lots of 19th century mail order brides had no contact with future husbands prior to stepping off a stagecoach in an unknown territory. Several, however, did correspond about their lives, hopes and dreams via handwritten letters which may have taken weeks to be delivered. Today’s sharing of lives, hopes and dreams are delivered in seconds, but the sentiment is likely much the same. Classified ads were common in newspapers until the Internet stepped in.

It’s the Sweetest Day ~ October 21

Here is a sweet holiday with the most noble of motivations. Sweetest Day was first celebrated in Cleveland in 1921 for distributing candy to neglected and forgotten residents in the city. He loves me, he loves me not, she loves me, she love me not — what better way to be assured of someone’s true love than pulling petals off a daisy?
